Proposed Tony Duke Academy Charter School

Boys & Girls Harbor, located at 1 East 104th Street in Harlem is helping prepare an application for a new charter school, which will be submitted to the SUNY Board of Trustees in April. The proposedTony Duke Academy Charter School, named in honor of Harbor founder Anthony “Tony” Drexel Duke, is scheduled to open in 2014. It will feature an infusion of the performing arts, an individual learning plan for every student, and a close collaboration with Boys & Girls Harbor. In order to make this school a reality, we need your input and support! There will be several ways for you to get involved in the school planning process, including:
  • Focus Groups – These will be small sessions to gather your input on the proposal. The first focus group will take place Monday, February 25 (5:30 p.m.) at the Harbor. If you are interested in participating, please e-mail charterinfo@theharbor.org or call Danielle at 212.427.1521.
  • Information Sessions – The first session will be held at the Harbor on Thursday, March 7 at 6:00 p.m.
  • Written Comments – Comment boxes and petitions in support of the school will be available at Harbor program offices and in the 104th Street lobby of the Heckscher building.
  • We welcome feedback in English or Spanish. Send to charterinfo@theharbor.org.
If you live in this East Harlem community, or are otherwise interested in this school, here is your opportunity to get in from the ground up.  Take advantage!
