The 6th Annual New York City Shred Fest!

Shred Fest is an annual City event to help New Yorkers prevent identity theft. Shred Fest will be held this year on Sunday, May 19, 10am - 4pm.  At Shred Fest you can:

• Safely shred papers containing personal information for free using shredding trucks
• Get free identity theft prevention tips
• Get a FREE paper shredder* donated by Staples if you are one of the first 5 people to arrive with your papers at a Shred Fest location.

*NOTE: New York City government employees are not eligible to receive a free shredder. If more than five people are present at a Shred Fest location before volunteers arrive, volunteers will use their best judgment to determine paper shredder recipients. Recipients will fill out a form to confirm they are not City government employees.

broken motherhood museum exposes the personal struggles women face throughout pregnancy and parenting. While experiencing this living exhibit, the audience is encouraged to engage with the characters as they make difficult, often nontraditional, and taboo choices regarding their bodies, lovers, children, and sexuality. broken motherhood museum is a play in which the audience is challenged to actively view and experience the burden of unrealistic expectations in motherhood we place on women and ourselves.

New York City College Line (NYCCL) has launched!

DYCD is pleased to share a new, on-line resource and directory that supports college readiness, access and completion. NYCCL was developed by Graduate NYC!, to help achieve the City’s goal of doubling the number of New Yorkers with a college degree by 2020.

The tool provides ready information from finding the right college to applying and financing post-secondary education through attending and completing college. NYCCL was designed to be used by students, families, teachers, advisors and others interested in any aspect of a college education.

Safe Disposal and Recycle Event

Spring 2013 NYC SAFE Disposal Events (Solvents, Automotive, Flammable, Electronics)

The NYC Department of Sanitation is holding five SAFE Disposal Events this spring (one in each borough) to provide NYC residents with a one-stop method to get rid of potentially harmful household products.  Unfortunately, the Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn events have already taken place.  However, you can still catch the Bronx and Manhattan events:

Bronx . . . Saturday, April 20, 10am-4pm at Yankee Stadium, 151st Street Lot, River Ave and 151st St; cars approach from 150th St up River Ave.

Manhattan . . . Sunday, April 28, 10am-4pm at Columbia University/Teachers College, 120th St between Broadway & Amsterdam Ave; cars approach from 122nd St down Amsterdam Ave.

Who Can Participate:  Only NYC residential waste will be accepted at these NYC SAFE events (no business or institutional waste permitted). No commercial vehicles allowed. Residents MUST provide proof of NYC residency.
