Mayoral Forum in East Harlem

Union Settlement and their co-sponsors AARP, STRIVE, and Hope Community are pleased to invite you to a mayoral forum on Tuesday, June 4 from 6:30-8:30 pm at El Museo del Barrio (1230 Fifth Ave, at 104th Street). The forum will focus on questions of concern to East Harlem residents and low income communities across NYC.

Safe Disposal and Recycle Event


Spring 2013 NYC SAFE Disposal Events (Solvents, Automotive, Flammable, Electronics)

The NYC Department of Sanitation is holding five SAFE Disposal Events this spring (one in each borough) to provide NYC residents with a one-stop method to get rid of potentially harmful household products.  Unfortunately, the Queens, Staten Island and Brooklyn events have already taken place.  However, you can still catch the Bronx and Manhattan events:

Bronx . . . Saturday, April 20, 10am-4pm at Yankee Stadium, 151st Street Lot, River Ave and 151st St; cars approach from 150th St up River Ave.

Manhattan . . . Sunday, April 28, 10am-4pm at Columbia University/Teachers College, 120th St between Broadway & Amsterdam Ave; cars approach from 122nd St down Amsterdam Ave.

Who Can Participate:  Only NYC residential waste will be accepted at these NYC SAFE events (no business or institutional waste permitted). No commercial vehicles allowed. Residents MUST provide proof of NYC residency.

PAID Audience Members for "The Job"

Weekdays, November 6-November 15, New York City Casting for "THE JOB" is hiring for their audience.  This is a PAID AUDIENCE show.  Must be 18 and over to apply for this casting.  THE JOB is a contestant based show taped for CBS.  As an audience member, you will sit in the studio audiene to watch contestants compete to win an actual job with a major company.  You will be watching 2 shows.  You will be ON CAMERA!  If seelcted to attend, you are paid at the end of the second show.  The rate for attending is $50 cash, paid on same day, for a 6 1/2 hour day.  However, on Novmeber 15th, the rate is $80 for a 10 1/2 hour day.  The show films in Manhattan.  Tickets are free and available to Onset Productions members but space is limited so hurry and apply for your FREE ticket.  After your ticket request is submitted, some members NOT ALL will receive an E-Ticket via email prior to the show.  Check your email daily if your request for tickets was accepted.  Simply print out your ticket and bring it with you to the show.  Utilize this link to register with On Set Productions (see the small print), and register for THE JOB tickets:  http://onsetproductions.com/calendar/tickets.aspx?showID=215

NYC Votes! Youth Voter Registration Jam ~ 9/25/2012

Dads Take Your Child to School Day ~ September 20, 2012

This year the Dads Take Your Child To School campaign will be held across New York State on Thursday, September 20th. Last year over 200 schools and Head Start programs across the State, numerous community and statewide partners, and over 9,000 dads participated in this event. The website also provides more information about why engaging dads and male caregivers is beneficial to children, and offers resources such as templates for flyers and certificates of participation as well as suggested themes.
