The "Impact of Giving Back" Contest (Grades K-12)

From now through January 20, submissions are open for the second White House Student Film Festival. The theme of this year’s festival is The Impact of Giving Back, and it’s open to U.S. students, grades K-12.

Students can tell their stories about paying it forward, about community service, or what making a difference looks like in their eyes and through their lens. It can be a fictional story or a short documentary, so break out the lights, write a script, get the camera ready, and show us your passion for service and giving back. Go the the White House Film Festival website for more details: http://www.whitehouse.gov/filmfestival.

The official selections will be featured on the White House website, and shared across the world on White House sites and official social media accounts. Winners may have a chance to attend the film festival at the White House!

IHOP National Pancake Day 2014

Tuesday:  March 4, 2014, 7:00 am - 10:00 pm
It's official! The date for IHOP's next National Pancake Day is Tuesday, March 4, 2014!

During National Pancake Day, the company's largest philanthropic event of the year, more than 1,500 IHOP restaurants across the country will invite guests to enjoy a complimentary stack of IHOP's signature delicious buttermilk pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Guests will be encouraged to make a voluntary contribution to their local Children's Miracle Network Hospital (we encourage guests to contribute at least what they would have paid for the pancakes - or $5).

IHOP will also host its annual miracle balloon campaign starting on February 1, 2014 and continue leading up to National Pancake Day on March 4, 2014.

One hundred percent of the donations will help local charities provide vital equipment, life-saving procedures and critical care for sick and injured children. Check back for more details as the event gets closer.

A great offer like this does have some rules! There is a limit of one free short stack per guest. The offer is valid at participating restaurants for dine-in only while supplies last, and are not valid with any other offer, special, coupon or discount.

Your Digital Identity Matters

While doing a search in the Department of Labor’s website, I ran across this webpage on their site:  “Dream It, Plan It, Make It Happen” (http://labor.ny.gov/youth) which is geared to youth ages 14-17 and ages 18-24 (two separate tabs).  Of course, I have a 15 year old, so I decided to check it out.  Once you click on “ages 14-17” or “ages 18-24”, scroll down to “Your Digital Identity Matters”.  Click on that link and READ IT!  (Direct link:  http://labor.ny.gov/youth/14-to-17.page? or http://labor.ny.gov/youth/18-to-24.page?).  It talks about your identity in relation to social networking and the job market.  It is quite informative.  Although it is for youth, I recommend that EVERYONE read it.  It provides very useful information that we can all use.  Learn how to secure your digital identity!

The site offers other useful information, but I thought this particular section was a MUST READ!

Free Movie Screenings?

After posting comments on FB, I am often asked about my "connections".  How do you get tickets for free movie screenings?  Well, unless you know someone affiliated with the movie, either in production, marketing, etc. to get tickets for you, you can always register at various sites.  Below are a few that I am registered at.  Most are nationwide, so check to see if your city/state is covered:

Cinema Source ~ http://www.thecinemasource.com/blog/screenings
GoFoBo ~ http://www.gofobo.com/screenings/
See It First ~ http://www.seeitfirst.net
Tabwin ~ http://www.tabwin.com
Wild About Movies ~ http://www.wildaboutmovies.com

Make sure you register to be considered for movies in the future.  And pray that your name is selected!

Enjoy the movies!

Welcome

Welcome to my blog. I'm hoping that you will visit me regularly to see what is on my mind. Each entry will probably stand alone, yet knowing that it is what's on my mind will help you to know and understand me better. For those who think they know me, here is the real test. Do you really know me??? Let's see . . .

Today, I'm tense. I woke up in a pretty good mood, yet by the time I left the house I was quite tense. Surprisingly, the ride to my daughter's school and on to work was uneventful. WOW! I even got a seat on the train on the first leg of the trip (to my daughter's school). That is very rare indeed. Work is going along just dandy. Yes, I have work, but nothing overwhelming. I look forward to the busy days again because I like to stay busy. It helps me to stay focused, and usually provides a learning experience. Every day should be a learning experience, no matter how small. Anyway, I'll return shortly as my day progresses. Until later . . .
